ON FILM: Films of Shohei Imamura

Charles talks with filmmaker and Japanese film scholar, Marty Gross, about a new DVD set highlighting the documentaries of Japanese filmmaker Shohei Imamura.  They talk about the interesting mix of documentary and fiction that can be found in such films as "A Man Vanishes" and "The Pirates of Bubuan."  Imamura tended to focus on subjects who were considered outsiders from their social circles, and he often inserted himself and his crew into his films.  In this online-only extended interview, Gross talks more about why Imamura's documentaries often come across like narrative films.  Learn more about Imamura and his films at http://www.icarusfilms.com/filmmakers/ima.htmlhttp://www.martygrossfilms.com/
