American Opera Series
Friday at 7pm
KTEP and the WFMT Radio Network is proud to bring the American Opera Series to the airwaves. This year the American Opera Series features great performances by the Lyric Opera of Chicago, LA Opera, San Francisco Opera, Caramoor Opera, Arizona Opera, and more!
Highlights of the American Opera Series include the Lyric Opera of Chicago with a fantastic season of Wagner, Mozart, Massenet, and more! Favorites include Berlioz’ epic Les Troyens, and Tchaikovsky’s lyric masterpiece Eugene Onegin.
Stars of this season include Eric Owens (Das Rheingold), Christine Goerke (Les Troyens), and Mariusz Kwiecień (Eugene Onegin).
Opera lovers everywhere are familiar with The Barber of Seville and the Marriage of Figaro, but LA Opera brings us the third opera in the trilogy, John Corigliano’s less-frequently-heard 1991 composition The Ghosts of Versailles. With a fantastic lineup of performers and Maestro James Conlon at the podium, you won’t want to miss these exciting performances!
Every season there are fantastic performances by current stars of the Opera world and astounding new Operas from some of the best composers in the field. This season San Francisco Opera brings you both! We’re especially delighted to bring you archival recordings of La Gioconda featuring Renata Scotto, and Strauss’ Arabella featuring the great Kiri Te Kanawa! Balancing these classic master performances is an exciting new commission for San Francisco Opera: Dream of the Red Chamber, Bright Sheng’s adaptation of the famous Chinese novel of the same name.
