FOCUS ON CAMPUS: Jewish Tradition in the Latino Community

Louie talks with Rabbi Stephen Leon of the UTEP Religious Studies Program and Senior Pastor at Congregation B'Nai Zion.  Rabbi Leon talks about the hidden Jewish tradition that is still being practiced by some members of the Latino community whose Jewish ancestors had to conceal their religious practices in fear of being prosecuted.  Rabbi Leon also gives us a preview of an upcoming concert by Sarah Aroeste, who sings & performs in Ladino, the Judeo-Spanish dialect that originated by Spanish Jews after their expulsion from Spain in 1492.  That concert is Monday, Dec. 8 at 7pm, at Congregation B'Nai Zion, 805 Cherry Hill Lane. Learn more at 915-833-2222, or visit http://www.saraharoeste.com/gig/

Aired Nov. 28, 2014.
