Writer Charles Bowden, who frequently wrote about border issues including drug cartel violence in Juarez, died Aug. 30 at age 69. In 2011, Bowden made a film that featured a frank discussion with a Mexican hitman who did unspeakable acts before deciding to abandon his profession and live his life on the run with a price on his head.
