ON FILM: Bernie

In a rebroadcast from June 16, 2012, Charles talks with journalist Skip Hollandsworth.  In 1998, Hollandsworth wrote the article "Midnight in the Garden of East Texas," which told the true story of an assistant funeral director, Bernie, who became the companion of a wealthy widow.  When she disappeared and Bernie confessed to murdering her, no one seemed alarmed or surprised.  The article was made into the 2012 film "Bernie" starring Jack Black as Bernie and Shirley MacLaine as the wealthy widow.  Director Richard Linklater recruited Hollandsworth to write the screenplay.   Aired Jan. 5, 2013.
