EL PASO PRIME TIME: City Charter Amendments, part 1

Guest host Richard Dayoub, CEO of the Greater El Paso Chamber of Commerce, welcomes former Mayor Joe Wardy, who served on the Ad Hoc Charter Advisory Committee.  Wardy talks about some of the proposed amendments to the City Charter, which will be put to a vote on November 3.  Wardy talks about the amendment that would designate the Mayor as a non-voting member of Council, and he also clarifies the amendment that focuses on a ban on outside public employment by City Council members.  Another amendment would allow Council to meet at least every other week, instead of every week.  Wardy also explains why the municipal elections will be moved to November in 2018, and runoffos to December in 2018…and why he thought it was a bad idea to decline a pay raise for the mayor and city council.

Part 1 of a 2-part interview.
