Unknown Mexico / Mexico Desconocido July 24, 2010 - September 12, 2010 Location: El Paso Museum of Archaeology, 4301 Transmountain This exhibit introduces some of the ancient & contemporary cultures of West Mexico, such as the ancient West Mexico Shaft Tomb Cultures, which flourished at the same time as the Aztec & Maya civilizations...and the Tarascan Empire, which flourished from AD 1100-1530...and the 21st century Cora & Huichol Indians living in the Sierra Madre del Norte.
The exhibit is based on a 1993 exhibit of original artifacts at the Houston Museum of Natural Science.
September 4 Zip Tour, 2 p.m., presented by curator Richard Durschlag.
Sept. 12 "Carl Lumholtz: Norwegian Explorer in North & West Mexico," lecture by r. Ben Brown, 2 p.m. In the 1890s, Carl Lumholtz lived among the indigenous people and explored the ancient sites of North & West Mexico.
